Proposed SEC Rule Change: Open Season for Pay-to-Play Corruption

Why not try anything else before simply greenlighting rich investment managers from essentially bribing government officials to hire them to manage government investments and enrich themselves further? Instead of hiring whomever seems best-qualified, government officials will be strongly incentivized to hire whoever writes them the biggest check at election time.

Half of a Billion Dollars of Plane Ol' Corruption

Once we as a people accept this sort of corrupt conduct as a standard part of our political system, it will become so. As many of us as possible must remain disturbed by this sort of conduct and reject it as an unacceptable.

Jeanine Pirro, Reflecting Pool Prosecutions, and Our National Embarrassment

Perhaps some nascent sense of ethics from Pirro's time as a judge and prosecutor in the 90's and early 2000's, long since buried below tons of self-interested, partisan programming, re-activated just enough to jar her back to reality, although I would not count on it.

The Strait of Hormuz and America's Mafia President

Donald Trump is floating a 20% fee for commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz, reminiscent of a small-time mafia protection racket.

Trump, Corruption, and the Grift that Keeps on Grifting

Malice and Division

At the White House UFC event, Josh Hokit regurgitated the bizarre and baseless rumor of former first lady Michelle Obama being born a man. Just like so much that involves or surrounds Trump, Hokit's comment was unnecessarily malicious and divisive.

Legal Brain Drain

About 20% of all lawyers employed by the federal government left in the 14 months following Trump regaining office. If you are an attorney who still retains a moral compass or believes in the foundational principles on which our justice system and nation were based, it is hard to imagine how you can justify continuing to work for the federal government.

Revenge and the Investigation of Trump Victim E. Jean Carroll

The Department of Justice, which is overseen by Trump, is criminally investigating a woman a jury essentially found Trump raped, not because she supposedly lied about the rape, but because she may have initially lied about whether somebody helped pay a portion of her legal bills, which her attorneys corrected on the legal record before the trial began.
