Honor, Idolatry, and False Gods

We continue to honor George Washington to show members of our society what he did, why it was so extraordinary, and that it should be emulated. When someone seeks to honor someone who is alive and still has formal authority, they distort the honor calculus and create perverse incentives.

Donald Trump Does Not Care About You

Inflation is poised to hit at least 4%, and people are feeling extremely pessimistic about their economic future. Trump denies there is a problem while simultaneously blaming the problem on others and taking credit for easing the problem.

Ballroom Blitz

Only 28% of people surveyed support Trump's White House ballroom project. At this point, the project appears to be little more than yet another way for Trump to honor himself and allow him to play the royal role he has seemingly envisioned for himself.

Aimless and Adrift in the Strait of Hormuz

Clearly, the US has little leverage at this point, or the Strait would be open, or at least Trump would have a clearly discernible plan for getting it reopened that he was sticking to. Strength in the Age of Trump

Politicization of Justice and the Indictment of James Comey

This indictment is serious evidence of the ongoing politicization of the US Justice Department and further undercuts both the rule of law and the faith of many Americans that justice is indeed blind. The President and his enablers hope that the American people, particularly those with reach and influence, will think twice before doing or saying anything to oppose him and will even kneel down and kiss His Majesty's ring.

Travelling in the Name of His Majesty, Donald Trump

The US State Department announced that it will issue limited edition US passports to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States featuring President Trump's portrait and signature. A nation whose people permit or even defend such conduct is a sick nation that has come unmoored from its civic heritage.

Assassination Attempts and Political Violence

While sometimes, in a moment of despair, we wonder if violence is the answer, we must stick to our morals and remember the virtues of the rule of law.

The Canceling of Sharon McMahon

Sharon McMahon was supposed to speak at Utah Valley University's graduation, the same university at which Charlie Kirk was assassinated. Upon learning this, a variety of Republican government officials and personalities went to work on her, claiming she was a terrible choice for a variety of reasons.
